wonders and includes stops at the following spectacular sights:
- Krafla: one of Iceland’s many volcanoes.
- Hverarönd (or Hverir) by Námafjall: an expanse of ever-changing
hot springs located at the foot of a spectacular volcanic mountain.
- Dettifoss: a waterfall that boasts the greatest volume of any
waterfall in Europe; five hundred cubic meters of water per second
plunges over its edge. Dettifoss is 45 m high and 100 m wide.
- Dimmuborgir (or Dark Castles): an area of randomly strewn lava
rocks and cliffs. Dimmuborgir is a place of surprises with its myriad of
forms, small caves and towering volcanic rock formations pierced by
natural apertures.
- Skútustadagígar: craters that were formed by gas explosions when
boiling lava flowed over the wetlands. The craters are a popular site
for birdwatchers and are protected as part of a natural wetlands
conservation area.
