The Landmannalaugar tour will take you through the long valley carved
out by the powerful River Þjórsá where you will see charming waterfalls
and a reconstructed Viking manor. Drive on through lava fields, across
vast expanses of black volcanic sand and past Ljótipollur, a volcanic
explosion crater, before reaching your final destination.
Landmannalaugar
is a remarkable site in an area where the effects of volcanic activity
are clear to see. Vividly coloured mountains, lava-filled valleys and
steaming fumaroles are juxtaposed with snowfields and nearby icy
glaciers. Relax in the warm water of a naturally heated pond with a
backdrop of jagged lava outcrops.
Next, a drive close to the notorious volcano Mt Hekla before driving through fertile farmland on our way back to Reykjavík.
